Frequently Asked Questions
Do you ship nationwide?
Yes, we ship to all 50 states.
How are the doors shipped?
Unlike other door companies, we build an iron cage around the crating to ensure there is no damage incurred during transit. Once the doors have left our warehouse they travel via semi-truck to your location. The trucks are equipped with a liftgate, and the driver will have a pallet jack on hand. We still recommend you have at least one able bodied person present to assist, and multiple people available for larger orders. If the order is too big to remove without a forklift, the items can be broken down inside the truck and removed in individual pieces.
How much do the doors weigh?
A single door in size 42” x 84” weighs approximately 450lbs including the jamb.
A double door in size 72” x 96” weighs approximately 850lbs including the jamb.
How do I get accurate measurements?
We need what’s referred to as the ‘rough opening’ dimensions. This is the distance between wall stud to wall stud and from subfloor to the bottom of header. If you do not feel confident in taking these measurements, a general contractor would be able to do so for you. Accurate measurements are a necessity prior to production, but not required to get a quote. A close estimate is all we need to give you an idea of the cost.
Do you install?
No, we are only a supplier. Most general contractors would be able to do the installation. Google is your friend if you do not already have someone in mind. We always recommend using a professional to do the job.
Do you have installation instructions?
Yes. These are provided with each order, or when requested beforehand.
What types of glass do you offer?
Double pane, insulated, tempered glass comes standard with all our doors, but we also offer single pane, tempered glass for interior doors and impact rated glass for hurricane zones or where safety is a concern.
Does the glass open?
Yes, our doors come standard with operable glass. This is to facilitate cleaning and to allow for ventilation. We can, of course, build the doors with fixed glass when requested.
How thick is the glass?
Single pane glass is 3/16”.
Double pane glass is 3/4” including the insulating gap.
Impact glass is 5/8”.
Can I choose which way the door swings?
Yes, all of our doors can be made to swing in or out.
What is the active door?
With double doors, the primary door is considered the active door, and the less used door is considered the inactive door or passive door. The inactive door has flush bolts that allow it to be opened when necessary.
Can the doors be built for interior applications?
Yes, we can make any design with single pane glass and without a threshold or customized as necessary for interior applications.
What’s included?
All our doors come standard with the jamb, threshold, hinges, glass, weatherstripping and finish. Handles are not included but can be purchased through us.
How thick is the metal?
We exclusively use premium 12-gauge wrought iron for our doors, jambs and thresholds. This is the thickest in the industry. Beware of doors made with 14-gauge or even 16-gauge iron. The higher the number, the thinner the metal.
Are the doors insulated?
Yes, all our doors and jambs come with a polyurethane, closed cell foam injected into the hollow areas. We also offer thermal barriers for extreme climates.
How thick are the doors?
All our doors are 2” thick.
How thick is the scroll work?
We use 5/8” scroll work. This is an industry standard.
Are the hinges adjustable?
No. The hinges are welded to the jamb and door and require no adjustment.
What is a roller latch?
A roller latch is located on the edge of the door to keep it closed. Typically, there is one at the top and one at the bottom. They are used in conjunction with pull handles. The roller latch tension is adjustable but does not completely secure the door. The deadbolt needs to be thrown to ensure the door stays closed. Traditional thumb latch handles do not require roller latches.
What handle boring do you use?
Our doors come with American Standard boring, which fits most any handle set offered at Lowes, Home Depot, Emtek, etc. We can, however, do custom boring at no extra charge for more exotic hardware.
Do you offer ADA compliant thresholds?
Yes, we offer 1/2” ADA compliant thresholds for any door at no extra charge.
Do the doors come with screens?
We offer magnetic, stainless-steel screens for an additional cost. The screens snap into place between the glass and scroll work. If you wish to add screens, we need to know prior to production. Screens cannot be added to completed doors.
Is the finish durable?
Yes, very. After the doors are built, they are sandblasted raw and coated with zinc to prevent rust and corrosion from forming. The primer is then baked on, followed by multiple coats of oil-based enamel. We also offer hot dip galvanizing for areas where salt air is a concern.
What maintenance is required?
We suggest using warm water, a soft cloth, and a bit of detergent for cleaning. Never use harsh chemicals as this can be detrimental to the finish. Unlike wood doors, iron requires very little upkeep.
Do you offer CAD renderings?
Yes, we offer Computer Aided Designs prior to the production process. These are free and require one to two business days.
Do you have a showroom?
No, we do not have any brick-and-mortar stores or showrooms. We are only a factory. This keeps our overhead low so we can pass the savings on to you.
Do you offer a warranty?
Yes, our doors come with a ten-year warranty. Ask your sales representative for the details.
What is your return policy?
All doors are custom-built to our clients’ unique specifications. Due to the custom nature of our products, all sales are final upon delivery, unless there are verified manufacturer defects.
Are the doors hurricane certified?
No, but we can build the doors to be hurricane compliant as required by your specific wind zone. This can include additional mounting tabs and hinges. Industrial grade surface bolts. Impact glass and doors that swing out. We’re willing to work with your local engineer to provide a CAD rendering that’s ready for their approval.
